Well, the point is that there are people around that like to pursue what they wish rather than follow what others do (or preach à la Jobs). It's a matter of free choice, and personality.
For the remainder of your assertions, and in particular the tons of teenagers who are allegedly earning "thousands" by writing ObjC games on the iPhone, let's try to put down some numbers - after all, we've got a technical background. What do you mean with 'thousands'? Because, thanks God, a good engineer can make thousands working with a plethora of technologies, Java included of course. If you meant that they're getting rich, please put down again the related numbers, because I think that there are many iPhone developers around and only a handful get rich. If you don't give me numbers, I don't see it different than playing at Bingo. Last but not least, given that there's still a very good market around, I'd like to have fun with my job. The only idea of putting myself at work with an obsolete language such as ObjC, with archaic tools such as XCode make me depressed - sure, if I decided to learn a new language I'd go with Scala. With so many things that one can do, I don't have any need to program on the mobile, least the iDevices. Since there are alternatives for the mobile platforms that are fun to use, I enjoy them. - -- Fabrizio Giudici - Java Architect, Project Manager Tidalwave s.a.s. - "We make Java work.
