I think I saw a Toshiba or IBM laptop prior to the air. But I wouldn't bet on 
it.. at any rate, they came out so close together that they would have had to 
have been developed simultaneously.

Think Palm Pilot and Apple Newton as prior art.. there are more examples but 
those are the most famous.
