Be happy that the so called software engineer didn't do a repair on Windows. My Windows 7 Update was stuck and they spent a couples hours fooling around inside the computer and finally escalated it to and engineer who spent most of two days fooling around while I sat and listened to Jaws telling me what was going on. He finally got the repair and Windows update working but he messed up a lot of other things, can't remember all of them. I finally hired someone to wipe the hard drive and re-install Windows 7. Things have been pretty good for several months now except for problems with IE 11 which I believe are caused by Jaws 18, I am running the same IE and Jaws on a Win 10 pc and things are much smoother there . The first time Windows update failed to install, I had to hire someone who knew what he was doing to manually install the update. I'd first contacted MS Accessibility. After an hour, they gave up and escalated. However, I didn't get any follow-up until this past Sunday, more than a month later. By then, the initial failure had been resolved. However, it's just happened again. I haven't decided what to do. In the past, MS Accessibility was going to solve another problem by reinstalling windows, which seemed to me much to dramatic. In that case, too, I turned instead to an expert who made the fix without trauma to my system, although some to my bank account.

I wish I had more confidence in MS Accessibility. For certain relatively minor things, I'm guessing they're fine, but for anything complex, you really need to monitor what they're up to. In addition, letting a month elapse before acting on an escalated matter, especially when security is involved, was unconscionable.

The short answer is that I have no idea how to solve this recurring Windows update failure by myself. If someone on this list does, we'd owe them a free subscription!!

I don't know if it's related, but I'm now routinely having trouble installing Windows updates on my Win7 machine.

I did call them, and we have no resolution just yet. They are saying the issue is due to Windows updates not being installed. I'm investigating this now, but wanted to reach out to the list to see if anyone had other ideas.

Mike, I take it you mean you're trying to install this JAWS file. If you're able to call VFO tech support, I'm guessing it would be your best bet.

Good afternoon all!

I am writing because I am encountering an odd issue when trying to load JAWS
18 onto a Windows 7 operating system.

When I click on the J18.0.4534 executeable, it begins the process. At the
46 percent mark, an error message appears saying the following

JAWS Set-up package error, The JAWS set-up package could not install the required component RunTimeJAWS. The process will now exit.

I'm looking for help with this issue. Any ideas would be helpful. Many thanks!
