I've heard that icons on your desktop take up some memory to display them 
although I can not confirm this myself. Some reliable people have told me 
that they place some lesser used icons in a folder on their desktop. I've 
tried this but like I said can not confirm any improvement at all in 
performance. I suggest more research be done in this area by who ever has 
the time for it.
