They have told him to remove the ConfigNames.ini in the User's Settings
folder. That just removes the older associations and replaces them with
a new ConfigNames.ini file in the Shared Settings folder. What is lost
is any user associations, such as Jamal's Thunderbird scripts.
It sounds like the only safe way to update to the latest JAWS is to
delete everything in your User's Settings folder (Start menu > All
Programs > JAWS 12 > Explore JAWS > Explore My Settings). Perform the
JAWS Update. Then add back all the scripts that you and others have
written. At last, if you personalized any web sites, spreadsheets, Word
documents or created Speech or Sound Schemes, recreate them now.
Unfortunately, FS does not seem to make it easy for script developers or
users of 3rd party scripts to update JAWS. JAWS Scripts used to be a
huge advantage of JAWS! However, they have never encouraged or
supported these 3rd party developers.

It seems to me that this is a hammer solution because excel is not the only
application that has enteries in the config.ini file and if it is deleted other
application may not work correctly unless in jaws 12 excel is the only entry in
the config.ini file. I have not upgraded to jaws 12 because it offers me
nothing I want an my jaws 11 is doing everything I need.

new jaws
FS tech support proposed the following to me without having to start jaws in
default mode or anything like that. Just start jaws as u do always and then:
Please go to the start menu, all programs, JAWS 12, explore JAWS, explore my
settings and press enter. Look for a file called config names.ini and delete
it allowing it to go to the recycle bin. See if that fixes the problem.

ello,
I am also having problems with JAWS not reading cells in Excel. I
closed out JAWS and opened up the run prompt. Ithen typed in jaws12
/default and when Iopened up excel it was working fine. How might I fix
this problem with the user settings?
Thanks,

When I had this problem, FS Tech Support had me run JAWS in default
mode to see if anything in the User Settings folder was the problem.
To check this, stop JAWS by pressing Alt + F4. Then hit Windows + r,
to open the Run dialog, and type "jaws12 /default", without the quotes.
If this fixes your problem, chances are you added a personalized
setting for this spreadsheet. Renaming the "PersonalizedSettings"
folder, should solve the problem. Go to Start menu> All Programs>
JAWS 12> Explore JAWS> > Explore My Settings, select the
"PersonalizedSettings" folder, press F2, and modify the name.

Hello listers:
This problem has already been listed, but I didn't save those
messages. What is the fix to make the latest JAWS 12 update to read
Excel data correctly? Currently JAWS 12 reads none of the cells. I
am running Windows XP and Excel 2002.
Thanks in advance.
