I've considered that, but I'm afraid I'll hurt my foot.

Hi Rich,

After uninstalling the drivers & Closing out of the device manager, just
reboot 1 time. What the hell, reboot 2 times if that feels better! LOL,
hahaha hahaha hahaha, LOL
Take care.

Thank you Mike,
These directions have 2 different ways to access this issue?
Or, do I go through the process which includes rebooting twice?

thanks.

Hi Rich,

Below are steps on how to delete / / remove / uninstall & reinstall your
USB
port drivers. Make sure that everything is unplugged from your USB ports
except for your keyboard & mouse if you use 1. These steps are for XP
users.

1. Go to system properties. Here are 3 ways to open System Properties.
A. Press the Windows Key + Pause Key.
B. Open the control panel, press the letter
S, until you land on System Properties, & press enter.
C. Go to your desktop, Highlight My Computer, Press Alt + emter key.

2. Control + Tab, 2 times to the Hardware Tab.

3. Tab 1 time to Device Manager / Device Manager button, press the
spacebar, & tab 1 time to your computer Tree View.

4. Arrow down this list to, Universal Serial Bus controllers, & press
right
arrow to open.

5. You need to uninstall every item in this list, reboot the computer, &
Windows will reinstall everything that you have uninstalled.

A. Arrow down the list to highlight 1 item at a time. With each item
highlighted, press your applications / context menu key.

B. Arrow down the list that opens & press enter on the Uninstall option.
Do
this on each item in the Universal Serial Bus controllers folder list.

C. After you have uninstalled all the items, Press Alt + F4 to close
everything, & reboot the computer.

When you reboot the computer Windows will reinstall all the drivers that
you
uninstalled earlier. Doing this got the USB Ports working again in this
particular instance. If your USB ports don't work after following the
steps
above, you
have more serious issues.
Take care.

I have XP pro.
Remove the ports? That sounds complicated.

There is another way. I haven't done it in ages, and I'll look it up
before I tell you to do it. But I used to have a dell that acted up. I
had
to actually remove the usb ports, then when I rebooted, they showed up
againa dn things worked fine. as I said, I'l look it up then get back to
you. You have Windows eight? Let me know so I can get the right steps.

Hi,
Try doing a windows e and after you have reached the c drive doing a
left
or
a right arrow to try and find those devices. Perhaps you have a view
enabled
that does not list the devices in a list.
If you still can not locate those devices perhaps try disconnecting any
USB
hub you may be using and plug the device directly into the USB port. If
you
can still not see the device, you may need to use software to access
the
device and not windows itself.
Hope that helps

Hi Rich,
Not everyUSB device shows up in the list of drives.
What type of device is it?

Hi all
I hope the subject line is accurate.
I have XP pro and 14.0.
I am unable to find devices I plug in to my USB port .
I go to "my computer" and I see a list that includes "C" drive and CD,
etc.
but , not, the new device I plug in to the front of the PC through a
USB
port.
There is a USB hub.
When I go in to control panel and add new hardware, I see a bunch of
USB
items with useless labels.

I've looked through the items in the "C" drive but nothing looks like
the
device

The software has been installed, and I hear the "ding" when I plug the
different devices in.
I assume that whenever a device is plugged in to the USB, I would see
it
listed as "F" drive or something like that, in "my computer".

I don't see anything listed when I hit insert F 10 or 11 either.
Thanks for any help.

I don't have this problem on my other PC that is XP home.
