Mike, being a bit concerned, I checked security in the action center and
discovered that the firewall in use is the windows firewall, but the
vipre firewall is listed but is turned off. the AV is vipre's.
I'm not sure if I should call tech support or just execute the offline
installer, or uninstall what's already installed and run the installer
again?

appeared in my system tray. Open the program and check that you do
have the virus protection enabled, if this is not checked off, then it
may not show up there.
