Hi Catherine,
When you install Jaws 16, Jaws 16 will automatically put a Jaws 16 Icon on your desktop.
Yes, you can leave your previous Jaws Icons on the desktop.
How to make a shortcut key for Jaws 16.
Go to your desktop, Windows key+m.
Highlight Jaws 16.
Press the application key, up arrow one time to Properties, press enter.
Tab two times to shortcut key, press the letter J, if that is the letter you want to use for your shortcut.
Tab to OK, press enter, confirm if needed with the Spacebar.
Now, when you press Control+ALT+j, your Jaws 16 program will come on.
While, installing Jaws 16, you will have several choices.
For example, run Jaws from the system tray, by default, this is unchecked.
I would check this item, here are the reasons:
1. At any time you can press, Insert+J, to bring up the Jaws window.
2. When pressing ALT+Tab, the Jaws window is out of the way.
When you are installing Jaws 16, You will come to a dialog page,
Start Jaws on the log-on screen, make sure that this is checked.
This way Jaws, will be available when putting in your password to log-in.
So, When you are on your desktop, pressing the letter J, will take you to your older version {13} of Jaws Icon.
Pressing J, again will take you to your newer version {16} of Jaws Icon.
I hope this helps...

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Upgrading to JAWS 16

I am upgrading from JAWS 13 TO JAWS 16.

I have some questions and I hope someone can help me.

I need to know how to save the new version to my desktop and how to create a
hot key for it.

Can I leave the old version of JAWS on the desktop?

Also will my computer start up each time with the new version of JAWS?

Are there any major changes from JAWS 13 TO 16?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Kate Walsh
