Just as a question: How long did it take you (for various values of "you") to gain core competency in Java, where you felt like you could work it out? At what point would you respectfully suggest that someone may not have the aptitude for a given language?
I just wonder because some people seem to have a much harder time getting a basic grasp of things than others. I don't think they're necessarily stupid or anything, but... I dunno, I just wonder how long it took people to learn Java's rudiments. Since I'm asking, I'll tell: It took me roughly a week before I was writing things I considered to be vaguely competent. What I did first was pretty immature - I'd do a lot better now - but hey.
