I have heard the word app used as an abbreviation for the word application when talking about Windows programs. But when I hear the word app these days I think of a program with a singular focus running on a device or smart phone that does a particular task well. For example the BARD app.

Subject: RE: what are apps? It's a valid question. In the most literal sense, "app" is just shorthand for "application." But although I can't speak for techies, in ordinary speech people seem to have in mind an app for an Apple device. I don't recall ever encountering a Windows person saying "app" in connection with a Windows machine. We say "application" or "program." Maybe we windows people just aren't hip enough. Or maybe every other Windows person is about to take potshots at me! -----Original Message----- From: Jfw [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of David Hardingham via Jfw Sent: Tuesday, May 13, 2014 6:59 PM To: [email protected] Subject: what are apps?
