Ah, I figured out how to get to the Help option so I could switch back to Classic Google Maps. The problem is, since the directions told me to click on the Help button, I was looking for the word Help. Stupid me. At least in Firefox, what I really wanted was the first (not the second) "unlabeled 0 button." Of course, because "help" and "unlabeled 0 button" are interchangeable.

If you activate the unlabeled 0 button, the first one not the second one, you should land in the help screen. With a little bit of trial and error you can switch to classic Google Maps, and if you hold your mouth right, you might even trip over the option to remember this choice for next time. Wouldn't that be spiffy?

Since I've switched to Classic Maps, I can't test whether this link will work for you, but give this a try. If it does, it's a whole lot easier than the method I described above:

Good luck!

Honestly, if you can get Google Maps to use the classic mode, it works well. Here are some instructions, which I can't get to work, because, after all, it's Google. But you may have better luck. One time I got it to work, and it was great. I just tried and failed. Good luck; it's a crap shoot:

I'm using MapQuest these days myself, and I don't know if I did something to put it into an easier to use mode or if the way I have it is just the default, but it works well for me.

I'm planning a road trip. I need a simple web site where I can input a
starting city, and ending city, and get a list of turn-by-turn directions
with mileages.

Map Quest really sucks, and most sites I've visited are overloaded with
advertisements, graphics, and confusing alternatives.

any advice?
