The slow response *may* be a bug in speech.dll, but it may also be the
result of another text-to-speech program in your system, using the SAPI 4.0
drivers instead of the SAPI 3.0 drivers. I learned this by downloading the
WindowEyes 3.0 demo to test with Eloquence for a friend. I had to get two
files from the Microsoft site first--spchapi.exe and msttsa22l.exe. After
installing them, JFW ran extremely slow. This is because WindowEyes uses
SAPI 4.0. As soon as I replaced the \windows\speech.dll with the version in
the JFW directory, all was right with the JAWS world.
