I can answer your specific question, and although it's not a question
of how to use JFW, it is a question of how to make ICQ work using JFW,
so I hope that Nick will deem this to be on topic. I will suggest
that if you continue to want help with ICQ that you contact me or one
of the other current users of the program privately or join the
jfw-icq mailing list.
The first thing to do is to make sure you have one of the latest
ICQ99A builds. I discovered from personal experience that earlier
builds of ICQ99A function differently.
Now, to change or disable one or more of the predefined ICQ hotkeys,
open the contact list and click the main menu button. It's just
labeled ICQ if you tab to it and it's located just to the left of the
online status if you use the jaws cursor.
This will open a menu from which you need to choose the preferences
option.
The preferences dialog will open with a number of tabs. Hint: Use
the CTRL-SHIFT-A to close the contact list and get it out of the way
while you work in the preferences dialog.
one of the tabs is the contact list tab. this is the one you want to
choose. It might be active since ICQ remembers the last place you
were in this dialog.
Now, locate the check box that enables the hotkeys. This can either
be done with the jaws cursor (route jaws to pc and arrow up about 2 or
3 lines) or if you click to place focus in this area, you can begin to
tab through the various controls.
Just to the right of the hotkey check box is an edit button. Activate
this button and a dialog will open with all the ICQ hotkeys listed.
there is a check box for each one which can be unchecked to disable
the hotkey or you can edit the key combination itself to change it.
Ok the 2 dialogs once you've made the desired changes.
Now, a final comment on accessibility, so those disinterested in this
topic may move on to the next message at this point. There's no more
instructions below on using ICQ.
Darrell, it's sensible that if a client has no need or desire to use
or learn ICQ that you'd not even mention the program to them. But
your message indicated that you "informed" clients that ICQ was
"inaccessible" which suggests that there was some interest on their
part. Describing it as "inaccessible" is different than describing it
as "accessible with difficulty" or "accessible with a little
practice." A fax which has not been processed through character
recognition is inaccessible, ICQ is accessible. I hope you'll give
this program an unprejudiced chance and allow others to do the same.
