I agree that statements about running JFW at startup which conflict
with one another get very confusing. I don't have the definitive
answer, nor do I have a reference to documentation, but here's what I
have to offer on the subject.
First of all, Run Jaws First which is found under the File menu does
not work in the NT version of JFW.
That said, I have read reports from a few users that Run Jaws First
does not work well for them with Win9x, but for the most part, if
you're going to start jaws with Windows, this should be the preferred
method. What I believe HJ does not recommend is putting JFW in the
Startup group. I think they suggest that you use run Jaws First
instead.
Now, before my mailbox or this list is flooded with examples to the
contrary, I'm sure there are examples of users doing all of these
things successfully. The bottom line is that if it works for you then
that's great. However, it stands to reason that HJ wouldn't put the
Run Jaws First under the File menu if they didn't expect it to be
used. I can add that it is likely to produce unpredictable and
probably unfavorable results to have Run Jaws First checked in
addition to having JFW in the Startup group.
The other thing to be careful of is that you don't try to start 2
different versions of JFW running at the same time. If you install
the new beta 3.3 and want it to start first, then be sure to uncheck
that option in your 3.2 version *before* checking it in the 3.3
version.
