First of all, landing on the TaskBar when first booting the computer is
*not* a Windows98 specific problem! It happens in Windows95 too! This
happens because there is another programme, also running at startup,
this other programme, whatever it is will usually have an icon located
in the System Tray. Though, in some cases, the only reference to it
will be found in the registery. Mitch did say that the MACAFEE virus
programme was set to load at startup, so landing on the TaskBar sounds
as though it is actually normal behaviour. As for not being able to
Minimize applications and go straight to the DeskTop I would suggest
checking to see whether or not the dreaded Active DeskTop is actually
turned off and not simply set to the Classic setting. If anyone else
knows just how this is done please pass it along as I too, could use
this information. I have also asked this second question on another
list, so if I get an answer first I will let you know. As JFW, at
least on my system doesn't appear to be Active DeskTop's best friend.

mitch with about every version of jfw i have used i have problem
getting focus
on desk top.
with all that said i usually solve the problem by getting the upgraded
default
script.
then i follow the instructions for makeing a frame on the desk top, its
all in
the read me file.
that should improve the desk top getting focus when you minimize.
about it coming up on task bar, well i know of no fix for that, and
just
figured it was a win 98 thing.
i guess i better follow this thread to find out if i am wrong.
