I am running a Gateway solo 9100XL laptop with a Trident Cyber something
video adapter and have had some video problems with JFW, like not being
able to label task tray icons, not being able to get JawBone working
because it couldn't find a label in the task tray, etc. I checked my
resolution settings and they are fine. I think it is the video driver. We
have a dVD drive in this machine, so I think it is the drivers that are set
up to work with the video driver. I know HJ's official stance is to find
16-bit drivers. i called Gateway, and they don't understand why we can't
use 32-bit drivers and think there should be a patch to fix this problem.
So, ax Gateway off the liost. I have treid to get to the trident web site,
but have had no success. This brings me to my question.

What laptops work with JFW, from a video driver persepctive. I work for a
state agency that buys equipment for its clients and blind employees and we
need to have this information. Is there a list of JFW supported laptops? If
not, should there be? I need a comprehensive list to present to my boss and
other appropriate people. And we need some more clarification about this
driver issue with JFW. For instance, aren't 16-bit drivers windows 3.1
drivers? If jfw is a 32-bit app, why do we need to run 16-bit drivers? and
did win95 use 16-bit drivers in the beginning? When did these 32 bit
drivers start appearing? What is the difference betweena 16-bit and 32 bit
driver, and why do we need the higher bit drivers? I am just trying to get
all the answers for the appropriate people. I would like to recommend to HJ
that they start seriously investigating a solution to this problem. Thanks.
