Hi Jeff and Dan,
Just a stab in the dark. But, could the strange behaviour you describe be
caused by the synthesizer's indexing count. Synthesizers, as far as I
understand it, have a word in, word out count in which they must encounter a
punctuation symbol. A comma or a full stop etc. If such a symbol is not
encountered the synthesizer may stop speaking in the way you describe. In
JAWS for DOS H.J. provided a table of synthesizers and their input, output
indexing ranges. One could also alter these default levels by using a
/INDEX-= switch in the command line when starting JAWS for DOS but I have
not seen anything
of the sort in JFW. Perhaps H.J. could be persuaded to issue a number of
switches to assist users in running JFW and their synthexizers more
effectively, if this is indeed at the route of the problem you are
experiencing. I could let you have a copy of the original table as provided
by H.J. but I fear this would be of little use since JFW does not appear to
support such switches anyway, and indeed, newer synthesizer drivers may have
altered these values also.
Using Say All By Line sends an index marker to the synthesizer at the end of
each line, thus, causing the pauses that frustrate so many of us.

Dan,
I am using the "sentence" mode in JFW 3.30.25 and have also
experienced the problem of JFW simply stopping in the middle of text
during say-all reading. It does not always happen and it is not
consistent, but I have observed it. I have not yet let HJ know about
it, so if you do, please let us know what you learn from them about
this.
I have not experienced the other problems that you mentioned -- or at
least, I've not noticed them.
