Hello all
Like mike I am experiencing problems with JFW3.3 Internet Explorer 5 and
memory.
Here are the details.
If I go to the favorites (alt+A) and press enter on the first item, add to
favorites, I get a non talking error which says something like "memory stack
overflow" there is a close button but no details button. While this error
is on screen Jaws is frozen. When I press enter, activating the close
button, IE5 is shut down, the focus goes to the taskbar and JFW resumes
functioning properly.
I am able to add to my favorites by unloading JFW (insert+F4) and performing
the usual sequence (alt+a enter and enter again).
If I use the Internet Explorer 5 uninstall option to revert back to IE 4.01
everything works as it should with JFW 3.3.
I spent over an hour on the phone with HJ technical support. I think HJ has
made some major improvements in the support department. We checked all the
usual suspects, the video settings, JFW version numbers, what apps were
running in the background etc. We also did some tinkering with my
config.sys file. The HJ tech was stumped. He said he was going to
escalate, does this mean close air support, or maybe a ground war?
Here's what I've tried since my conversation with HJ.
I've uninstalled IE5, deleted the setup folder left over from the IE
install, then reinstalled IE5 from the JFW 3.3 CD.
I uninstalled JFW3.3, renamed the JFW33 folder which remained, reinstalled
JFW3.3 and re-applied the patch.
I ran a surface scan on my hard drive, ran McAfee virusScan and ran the
system file checker from the win98 CD.
I also deleted all temporary internet files and checked for windows updates.
I am one of the few who experienced illegal operations when closing IE4.01
while JFW was running. The 3.30.25 patch fixed that problem.
I did add one favorite with JFW running shortly after I installed IE5 the
first time. That must have been a fluke, or maybe my problems began after I
installed the Internet Explorer Privacy and Information Update and the
Update to Internet Explorer components from the Microsoft Critical Updates
site. I would like to hear from anyone who has installed these updates.
Unfortunately there is no option to uninstall these updates so I can't test
to see if they caused the problem. For some reason critical updates reports
that I have them installed even though I have reinstalled IE5. Does
Critical Updates really search your system to see what you have installed,
or does it simply store information in a cookie?
I can always revert to IE4.0, but that isn't the solution I'm looking for.
I will welcome any suggestion or comment.
Best regards
Gator
