Okay, here's the latest news on this mystery.

SFC was run successfully. No effect on the problem.
Netscapes' caching cleared and fully disabled. No effect on the problem,
but Netscape loads pages faster now.
Old/outdated Control Panel docs and startup tasks removed. No effect on
the problem, although Eudora seems to be running better. Netscape still
crashes all over itself.

Video compatibility should not be a problem. This error occurs whether or
not JFW is running, and the system ran quite nicely for several months
before this problem cropped up.

I have been trying to isolate the changes made, but so far no luck in
finding the trigger to this problem. I am disabling individual tasks to
see if I can find which one is doing this, so far no luck.

The problem seems to be generally triggered in network activity. News
Xpress will almost always cause Explorer to shut down, and both Eudora and
Netscape will shut themselves and other applications down. ICQ seems to be
somewhat stabler, but it also will shut itself down.

For whoever asked, faultlog.txt is in the Windows directory. But you must
turn the option on in TweakUI, at least that's how it works in Win98. I
started mine a few days ago (I'd turned it off because the system used to
run fine), if a copy of such would help anyone help me figure out what's
going on, I'd be happy to mail one out (off the list).

This thing is still a mystery. But I really want to thank those who've
offered advice. If nothing else, I'm getting a crash course (pardon the
pun) in Windows. I've learned a great deal--now if I could just learn what
I need to do to solve this problem!

Still searching,
Jim
