I sent a suggestion to [EMAIL PROTECTED] today requesting that they
incorporate a default into JAWS that would turn off the Office Assistant
every time a user enters any Microsoft application where this pesky thing
is used. While I'm by no means a seasoned Windows user, I also don't
consider myself a total novice and this bit me over the weekend ... I
spent a frustrating twenty minutes trying to figure out why I couldn't
read a Word document until it suddenly struck me to try the
Insert+Control+F4 combination. I figure that with my experience, somebody
who's a complete newcomer to Windows and MS applications and who doesn't
happen to have sighted help around could _really_ have trouble with this
thing because they're almost guaranteed to not even know what the Office
Assistant is or what it can do to your view in the application, let alone
how to turn it off.

If you agree that a JAWS default to ensure that the Office Assistant is
turned off is a good idea for the next update or release, you might think
about sending a note to [EMAIL PROTECTED] on the subject. I can't
imagine how a complete beginner would even start to cope with this.
