Greetings, With a sighted person standing behind me, I went to various stock sites and tried to read quotes. In the stock list I set up to track in My.Yahoo, the reading of fractions was random and 80% wrong. Occasionally a fraction *was* read right, but that was random. Most of the time, the number before the fraction line was omitted. that happened not only when the *whole number* ended in zero, but with every number. It made no difference as to which number was the whole number. Some times the fraction was omitted or read plain wrong not just the number to the left of the fraction line. We experimented by moving up anddown to try to figure out the random nature of this problem. Then I went to other sites. Whenever the whole number ended in a zero, it was hard to figure it out--but one could do it although it was far from easy. the second digit in a number ending in zero is the number to the left of the fraction line. But when the pages are read fast, that means there is an increased chance of human error. I feel that one would have to use a Braille display and not rely on fraction reading accuracy if one is working in stocks. This might not seem important to you. but there are situations when an-- let'"s say an $9 difference could easily occur as the human ear might not catch whether that "9" was the fraction as in 9/16 or the "9" in the whole number 29. and these reading mistakes that occur often in 3.3.1 are so random that one just might not know for sure. One can read quick and I do. But the law of averages indicates that people in work situations will misread any of the above. I hope this is a better explanation than offered before. It represents a lot of effort on my part--as I tried to discover situations that might provoke the misreading of the fractions. The sighted person standing behind me was a little upset as we discussed the issue of the "9" dollar difference in misreading a quote. There are people who use JAWS 3.3.1 who trade on the web. and this is a growing trend which banks and brokerages are encouraging because they make lots of money from trades on the web. . I mention this information so that we can *all work together to decide what and if stuff needs to be fixed*. I mention this so that people do not make mistakes, because their ear told them one figure when the printed word on the screen displays a far far different number.
