Hi HJ staff,
While reading my e-mail just moments ago, I ran across a message that
absolutely killed my Dectalk PC card. It knocked out speech as surely and
as quickly as the infamous "pragmatically" killed past versions of
Eloquence. The offending deadly message came from a sender whose last name
had an e with a grave accent in his last name. The only way that I could
tell was by rebooting with JFW running Eloquence, then later switching to a
rival screen reader with its Dectalk PC driver loaded. That driver handled
the e with a grave accent just fine, thank you. So, fellas, what say you?
Don't you think it's time that that problem gets addressed? That problem's
been around for at least a couple of years. BTW, this occurred with JFW
3.31.35, its Dectalk PC driver and a PC1 card running version 4.2c. I'd
sure like to see either a fix for this coming real soon or a surefire way
to avoid playing Russian roulette any time I use my DEC PC card with JFW to
read anything that might have nonstandard characters. How about it, guys?
