I think you could be right about a Adobe program doing something to
prevent JFW from running properly. In my case, Dr. JAWS suggested and
disabled this feature for me. I would run Dr. JAWS from the JFW submenu
in the start menu just to see what it can do for you.
Well, I've just reread your message. In your case however, you have
already restored your old system files, your scanner might not run
correctly if it runs at all.
to be safe, I would
1. Tell JFW not to come up automatically as the computer boots.
2. Remove HP programs (not Ruby).
3. restart the machine.
4. reinstall HP Scanner driver.
5. Restart the machine.
6. Run Dr. JAWS from the start menu to see what it tells you.
On the HP installation CD, there are normally several setup executable
files. There should be one for each program. I would find the one for
HP scanner and run that one only and not worry about other programs on
the CD. This setup also should be much more speech friendly than the one
gets executed automatically as you put your CD in. I don't remember the
folder name though. Hope I gave you something helpful.
