Dear Bhabani and others,

In response to Bhabani's mail, I agree with you that moderators should take
a stand and stop this discussion - even though I have been a part of the
same discussions. As I pointed out earlier, certain members of the listserve
are on a "mission", and accordingly post articles/writeups targetting
particular communities/group of people. The writeup by Mr. Ashok Saha, the
retired IPS IG (and a VHP member) on Kandhmals was an instance. The Justice
of Trial Report on Kandhmal is another. Why were these circulated on the
listserve, if they are not relevant to Jharkhand and deal with Orissa? It is
interesting to note that in the main listserves which serve Orissa- these
reports have not been circulated or if circulated, refuted strongly by
various people and then sunk without any arguments. But in a listserve
dedicated to Jharkhand, this issue about Orissa is being kept alive and
linked to Christian missionaries and conversion- a typical Sangh Parivar
agenda.

Given my interests in both Orissa and Jharkhand, it is very difficult to
keep quiet on such misinformation and propaganda. I also realise that these
people with a mission have all the time in the world to reply, and that they
will never give up arguing. They find enemies everywhere, whether it is in
muslims or christians or so called "secularists". This argument will be an
endless one- because we are faced with people who are closed to rationality
and compassion. Ghum phir ke wahin par baat aajaayegi. For a person who has
been a long term watcher of such fundamentalist groups (and their online
listserves and sites)- I can assure you that they will not stop this unless
they are clearly asked to.

Again these people have gleefully circulated the Justice on Trial Report as
a vindication of their stance on Kandhmal riots, without pointing out that
Justice on Trial is a hindutva outfit floated by an ex-justice who has been
pro-hindutva and partisan in his dealings. I am providing the details below:

**
*Justice on Trial, Ahmedabad based Human Rights' Organisation registered
under Trust Act.*
Founded by Justice SM SONI, President of JOT: He was a Former Justice
Gujarat High Court and former Lokayut of Gujarat. He softened his stand as a
judge to acquit a Bajaranga dal activist. He as a justice of the Gujarat
High Court said that the courts, instead of being swayed by media reports
(post Gujarat riots), should take punitive action against any interference
with the judicial process. *Soni also blamed the former Chief Justice of
India heading the NHRC for not following the judicial norms by approaching
the Supreme Court, instead of the High Court, when Best Bakery accused were
acquitted by a session's court in Gujarat.* He also added, *The decision to
transfer the case was not on grounds of merit or evidence*. The case,
instead of being transferred to Maharashtra, could have been referred back
to the Gujarat High Court. ( ToI - 18-5-2004)

One can know about his credibility from the links given below-

Some of the Members of the JOT Fact Finding Team visited Kandhamal-
The Chairperson of the Team - *Sardar J.S.Gill,Additional Advocate General,

*Ms. Nafisa Hussein : P*articipant in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak
Sangh-sponsored "Nationalist Muslim Conclave" Feb 13-14, 2005 JAIPUR Nafisa
Hussein. Nafisa Hussain, a member of the NCW, went on record saying
that *several
organisations and the media have needlessly blown out of proportion the
violence suffered by minority women in the communal riots of Gujarat*.
Two other members of the FFT - *Captain M.K.Andhare and Ram Kishor Pasari
based in Ahmedabad are never found to condemn the Post-Godhra riot.
*Please see how RSS values the FFT report from JOT in its mouthpiece –

All the members of the JOT team were carefully selected for their sympathies
for the Hindutva cause or who were officials under BJP regimes. Is it
possible to have an unbaised report from such people? This mail is just to
inform people who may be swayed by this apparently "unbiased" report on the
situation on Kandhmals that you need to read it with a pinch of salt.

I am sure that this mail on this would again invite an avalanche of postings
from my Hindutva supporting friends. MY own suggestion is that we take a
majority view and stop targetting any one community/religious group in this
listserve and stop all these mails which unneccessary *hurt certain
community members*. Let us cut this chain of point-counterpoint. I will not
post anything countering AkhandHind, V and Saurabh if they refrain from
posting matter about Orissa or Gujarat or condemning christiam
missionaries/islam/secularists or promoting hindutva propaganda.

Maybe the hindutvaminded friends would like to set up another listserve
where they can talk to each other.

Regards

Nachiketa
