I was fortunate to have parents who were not conservative and did not believe

celebrated Diwali every year. It felt good to be part of the
neighbourhood and the community and celebrate the festival of
lights. Even before it became Fashionable to talk about pollution and
avoid firecrackers ,we were made aware of it and made it a point to
share sweets and other goodies with the poor. The family tradition
continues and even till today my children and extended family
celebrate it the same way.

Most of our festivals whether Holi or Diwali are seasonal . Why not
enjoy them and also share them with our less fortunate brethren? As
far as the stories about Ram or Bali or any one else are concerned I
think they reflect the value system of ancient times. I see no point
in bycotting such festivals. They bring joy .

Incidentally I am a great admirer of lord Buddha and try to practice
Theravaad. Buddha never taught HATRED only MANGAL MATRI.
