Easy: Request a minimum number of confirmation for each event otherwise it is canceled.
So far only about %50 of attendees take the time to confirm their attendance. Only count those. You don't confirm. You don't count. We ask for confirmation for so many reasons. This is one of them. Problem solved. :) But proper promotions for the LUG and its activities must be an ongoing effort first.
