Dear All
I feel so glade that I can contribute to the community back something in
return for what they given me in the past” I remember the knowledge that I
gained from our meetings in ITU in the past”, we have something great I agree
but we must do more for the community, not just give another lecture or gain
another Linux user and that’s it, the lecture will be forgotten in a while and
the user interest will changed with time.
We must introduce Linux properly, with all what LINUX and open source word
means, not just the technical side of it, just if we can implement the sharing
idea and “take and give” policy or habit in the new comers the LINUX world will
be better and our community will be stronger.
If the lecturing thing not working with us I am inviting all the JoLUG
member to the next meeting to discuss or to drew the LUG path and plans, please
guys if anybody cares a little bit about the LUG come to the next social
meeting and give us any idea or thought that can help JoLUG to grow "I believe
that we can".

now? For the current established user base, we are great, we rock. For new
comers? well we are somewhat good, we could do better, but they are not
participating in return so the fault is 50-50. For people who didn't even hear
of linux or just starting out? we are a complete train wreck!!

I understand what halasa wrote, when you have more than 80 people, it's really
difficult to do something that would interest them all, not to mention the huge
logistical problem of coordinating such an event. Different people have
different approaches. But the thing is, the current subscribers are not
participating in ANY activity we do. Zaid Amireh said he is happy with the
mailing list, good for him. Whenever there is a thread that he can participates
in he does, that's his style. Whenever we have a public event you see Ammar
Ibrahim volunteering. Whenever there are pretty advanced questions you'll see
Yaman and Khamis coming to the rescue. But the thing is, beyond the usual 20,
we have ZERO activity. They are, in fact, zombie processes.

What Ayed said is also true, if you read our threads you won't find any "how do
i find a file by its name" questions, or what media player plays wma files.
It's all somewhat advanced, and development centric. Of course we can't ask
people to dumb down their question (and thank god for having such a qualified
user base in the first place), but some new comers might shy away from us
because of us unconsciously setting the bar a bit high. Of course, for this
there is no solution, we can't simply start asking novice questions, but we
simply try to convey an atmosphere of tolerance of what some might deem as
"lesser" questions. Some might argue that's their problem, well... let's be the
grown ups here.

Anyway, the original motive for this thread was not how our lug is interacting
with the community. It was about the effort being extended every two weeks by
mousa nassar, and being ignored time and time again. It's about having a fully
equipped lab and not utilizing it. I understand that we can't have everybody
show up for every lecture (and they shouldn't), but the general mood towards
those lectures is passive and non-caring. Either use the lab, or just set the
guy free to enjoy his weekend. Going to work on a friday from 5-9 isn't exactly
a thrill ride. If anybody requests any future lectures, we could arrange them
on a case by case basis with him, if the labs are still free for our usage.
This permanent schedule thing isn't working for us.
