Hey Blair,
I did see him live, just this past weekend, in Portland, in a small
venue, 400 seat theater, his first headlining show since his new CD
release in June.
He was fantastic. I haven't felt so enthralled since Joni's last 2 tour shows.
I brought him a CD of music from my friend Garrin Benfield, the
musician, who he's met before at a party, though he hardly
remembered, he was so wasted. He plays hard, and gets around, as
Garrin says. The CD had a note and Garrin would like to be his
opening act when he gets his own headlining tour, which surely he
will soon. Rufus didn't remember Garrin, but drooled over his photo.
It was cute. He's endearing and unique, and young, still forming his
work. I can't wait to see him again here in California when he tours
with Tori Amos. I'll be sure to bring some jelly bellies, thanks, he
does sing about his obsession with them in his lead off song on the
new album.
