I may be misunderstanding what is meant by this remark, so I apologise in advance if I have. I have seen similar remarks made before. It makes me feel quite uncomfortable. If I am understanding it correctly, the implication is that as i dislike the type of music you are referring to, I am racist? I do not like Ms Hill at all. Is she the one who used to be with The Fugees? A band I heard of couple of murdered classics from. I don't like Ms Blige either. Nor NSync, nor All Saints, nor Britney, nor M&M, I don't like Hip Hop, I don't like Soul, I don't like Heavy Metal, i don't like bands like Bon Jovi, CSN&Y, I cannot stand Mr Dylan, nor RLJ nor Ms Krall nor Joplin(janis)the list is endless! I am fussy, very when it comes to music. The people I do like mostly are 4 white women and 2 black women -singer/songwriters all. I also like an assortment of other people, mainly music rather than vocals. the one thing I definately lack is appreciation for male singers which may or may not have something to do with my general lack of appreciation for men. However, I think it is more to do with the fact that I just don't relate to what they sing about and because the voice just doesn't touch me. The sexuality of the male doesn't seem to make any difference. I can't abide listening to Elton John. To be fair tho I do have 3 Bowie albums that I like very much(DD< Ziggy and STS) and a couple of Jimmy Somerville's, tho his voice is very interesting and different. And I like some Elvis ballads etc. I think taste is taste and whilst I can well believe that there people who will not listen to a black persons music just because they are black, I don't think in general that people like myself who do not like certain music, dislike it because of the race of the composer/singer! For me I dislike it cos it irritates the hell out of me, it jangles me, it leaves me wanting less. this goes for any music I dislike. I really really really dislike RAP(or whatever it is called now) and I really really really dislike Opera-both for the same reason.
