<<Still, even with these shortcomings, it's a powerful film. >>
Nate & I went to see it yesterday...I too thought it was wonderful. I didn't know anything about Nash, so I had no preconceptions, didn't know what to expect. Crowe was great...shoo in for the Oscar, who always loves a mental case. Likewise the film will win Best Picture, both as a reward for Ron Howard's return to form and for the triumph of the human spirit and blah blah. Jennifer Connelly won't win anything, except for my undying affection...WOOF indeed! The script was very well-done, veered a bit into cliche, the makeup was excellent and really allows you to see these characters age. My minor complaint...Crowe walks in to teach his class in a tight T-shirt, and he's buff as hell. Here's a guy who can't find time to eat or even practice personal hygiene, and he's got pecs & arms like he hits the gym as often as he rips out magazine pics. But it IS a minor complaint. The film is magnificent. Bob NP: Joni on "Morning Becomes Eclectic" from 3/27/98
