I'm not 100% on this one, Ruth, but I believe that this is indeed the case. Is Joni's strategy to fulfill her contract and bow out (the working title for the project IS "Swan Song" after all)? Could be, she's been trying to quit since 1970. And if it is her final work, it would sure be a shame, with so many of her contemporaries (Dylan, Costello, Springsteen, Waits, & old beau JT) continuing to release outstanding work and proving that record industry be damned they can still be relevant.
