If that's the case, then she's funding all of the albums under the deal 
or at least she will fund all since that one.  They would have 
renegotiated that if it wasn't in the original contract.  It may also be 
that she paid the overages herself, meaning anything that was 
beyond what was in her contract for that stage of the deal.

(I wonder if it was 5 albums.  If Hits & Misses were the first, then 
there have been four.)

It's called the Recording Artists Coalition and Joni was not a 
founding member.  It was founded by Don Henley and Sheryl Crow.  
Maybe Joni was a member of Artists Against Piracy that was 
founded and run by Noah Stone (Ron Stone's son).  The two 
organizations merged last year.  If she was a member of AAP she 
wasn't very visible.  And if she's a member now of RAC, she doesn't 
seem to have an interest in publicizing it.
