Home from work today and watching Nashville on dvd.

I had forgotten some of Altman's great jokes -
the song that the Henry Gibson character sings at the Grand Old Opry which he introduces as 'the song that got me started in this business' is Keep A'Going. And that is a poem that Gibson used to do on Laugh In and it was funny because it was so gol'darn corny. I suppose the only reason that I remember that is one of my cousins recorded that onto a tape of the stupidest things of the year, and Keep A'Going is on it. "When the doctor says its time, keep a'going..."
A scene at the Opry where Julie Christie is doing a celebrity walk through cuts instantly into a scene of Geraldine Chaplin. All we needed was Omar Sharif and it would be Zhivago all over again -

And I am struck again how Lili Tomlin was robbed by not even being nominated for this part, let alone winning the Oscar -
back to Nashville -
