I talked to five different people who put orthodontic appliances on their 
kids when they were very young. All five said they would not do it if they 
had it to do again, based on additional problems later on + the kid's 
difficulty in keeping their teeth clean at the time.

Sounds like you did the best thing in your situation; I'm sure there are not 
two cases the same and as you know, sometimes you have to parent with your 
gut feelings.
