Thank you Simon, for Dr Martin Luther King's "I HAVE A DREAM" speech in your posting today...
Is it not a thought to chill the blood that, over history, time and time again, other orators have spoken of hate and war and vengeance and have been given greater credence and lived longer..........whilst those who preach of love and understanding and acceptance and equality are oppressed, silenced and murdered... It also chills my blood that children throughout the world have to deal DAILY with mental, sexual and physical abuse, are daily in the cluthces of paedophiles who sell their depravity on the net, are daily pumped full of the notion that to "be cool" you have to do drugs and bunk off school and the ones who resist this are the ones who are tormented, bullied and made to feel wrong.... >From time to time I see children on such shows as Jerry Springer (Ye Gods and little fishes I think the man is sick!!) and they are being manipulated by their peers and by the promises of BEING ON TELEVISION and they cannot see... and will not see .... that what they are doing is wrong... and that the outcome will be a life as bad as any enemy could wish on them... and who is the enemy? It is our greed for the NOW the BEST, THE MOST EXPENSIVE, THE NEWEST AND SHINIEST of EVERYTHING because those things that money and power can buy seem to offer a solution to the gaping holes in their lives.....and the holes are caused by?... Society, the breakdown of love and peace and acceptance and equality and humanity..(or maybe that these things have never been established)..and also of humility and a recognition of our tiny hold on the world wide notion of us being all the same under the outer skin. WE have different cultures but they are valuable none the less. It seems to me that we have lost our sense of perspective on what really matters. There will always be those who are greedy and those who are narrow and those whose morality is questionable... these are the people who through their manipulation of those around them and who build their empires in the areas that will bring them prominence, who rise to the top. I strongly believe that there should be open and very public examination of those who wish to hold high office... This is supposed to happen but it does not. Palms are greased, stories suppressed and images cleansed with fat cheques and sinecure posts.... But, to remain sane in this mad world I have to believe that every person , regardless of colour, race and creed would actually prefer to live a life that left them able to sleep at night with an untroubled conscience. I have never yet seen a world leader who seems to have had a good sleep and I think it goes deeper than matters of state.... Martin Luther King had a dream for racial equality. For myself I have a dream of international humanity, for the recognition of the unique worth of every person however humble, from whichever country, and for children to be valued for the fact that we place the future of this planet in their hands...and for them to stop being used and abused worldwide.... It is not a new thought, it is not even of my own making but there it is.... and prompted by Simon's wonderful posting of the words of a man who scared the powerful shitless!! Think of the lessons we can learn, think of the good that we can do. "and the greatest gift of all is love" Lucy NP Paul Brady Spirits Colliding.
