Mike, as I said, I don't think the grasshopper/ant story was referring to race - had I thought that, I wouldn't have sent it out (and wouldn't have been sent it in the first place). I think the ant story is about people who see themselves as having worked all their lives to support a welfare state that they feel doesn't support them when they need it (e.g. govt taking their houses to pay for their places in old people's home etc). These were the politics that I was saying I wasn't sure I agreed with.
