I thought that people on welfare or other assistance could still get some
kind of loans or grants for education. A friend was on welfare (single mom
with a child) and got Pell Grants to attend Court Reporting school.

I'm not sure about that Mags. One can always can get student loans here no
matter what one's income. Outright grants and some scholarships may be
another issue. I don't think the welfare system and the student loan system
is connected here.

Try living on welfare or unemployment in California where they just released
a report stating that the *average* montly rent is $1,600 a month!!
