As to your original point that the war is inevitable and the left should concern itself with the outcome, it seems unlikely that the US gov't would listen to the people's opinion about who to install in Iraq when they won't listen to them on the larger issue of going to war in the first place. Joan Baez said Sunday that people had been asking her how the new peace movement differed from the 60's version. She said it was larger, better organized, funnier and more creative, and that unlike the sixties, it had a chance of stopping the war before it began. RR
