I should add that this harmonics stuff made no sense to me until someone explained to me how a pipe organ works. Simply, blow air across the mouth of a pipe four feet long and you get a particular pitch. Blow air across the mouth of a pipe half that length, or two feet long, and you get the same note an octave higher. That process continues until you get up to very high frequencies that give cymbals their zing, trumpets their brassiness, or an acoustic guitar it's brilliance.
