Hi,

Please notice the difference: SLD and advanced styling are for styling the
whole layer (yes, with filters and by use of attribute values it is possible to
create several styles for one layer, but still) while OGR feature styles like
the pick color tool are for styling individual features. Those styling features
do not compete with each other, they are rather alternativesy. And OGR text
strings are actually dead simple, I made pretty amusing trials by writing them
by hand as OGR_STYLE attributes with OpenJUMP.

plugin

Hi Jukka,

I did not know OGR feature style.

IMHO, the way to go for complex styling is sld and se.
They offer a better separation between data and styling and are widely
supported.

I'm not against the pick color tool because I'm sure it can help to do
nice maps
efficiently in some circumstances, but I'd rather spend time to improve
advanced styling
(as in kosmo) and sld support.
