Dear Giuseppe

Thanks for the clarifications. I believe I can do this with the assumption that the chosen attribute has values already scaled in the range 0 to 360, i,e. the value is the bearing relative to North measured in a clockwise direction. This means that the symbol attached to the vertex will be rotated according to the nominated attribute value for its containing feature. This will apply to vertices on points, lines and polygons.

This will mean changes to the definitions of the ImageVertexStyle, and hence any exiting project files will not load, new ones will need to be created.

I should be able to post something within a day or so.

Hi Geof,
thanks for your interest about geologist's problems.
And for your effort to produce a good Symbol point
plugin

If you want, I can translate my geological fonts to
SVG graphics, it will take some days, but I think I
can do it using PS exporting.
Regarding Ravi's question (2. The symbols should take
rotation from attribute value), this is important
(for us geologists, of coarse) since we geologist use
a wide range of symbols connected to different types
of objects (basically areal and linear object) and
each of them should take a different rotation
according to its position to the North (generally
clockwise, from 0° to 359°).
That means that if we have a group of 15 or 20
different point symbols, each of them is probabily
divided in 360 subgroups. The totakl number of
subgroups is impossible to manage with different
datasets in a GIS Editor. That's the reason of a
"rotation according to an attribute value".

Anyhow in few days I can send you the SVG geological
symbols of my fonts.

Thanks again

Giuseppe

Dear Users

I have just posted updated version of my JumpPrinter
and VertexSymbols plugins - fixing a few bugs in both cases.

Note that the VertexSymbols plugin now supports:

   1. Rotation of image symbols (all types)
   2. The option to generate internal image from SVG
file at any
required size, 64x64 is the default.

With regard to using TTF as vertex images, I know
how to convert a TTF to a SVG font, but my plugin needs a SVG (graphic?), does any know how to convert SVG fonts into graphic objects (if that
is sensible question).

Hi,
good news that serious attempts are made to
add
symbols.
As a Geologist may I request to add 1. Symbols of Dip and Strike, folds, lineation.
  2. The symbols should take rotation from

value.
Jump importing *.svg files.
We use Inkscape for preparation of final layout
through Inkscape by importing
  Jumps vectors as *.svg files.
It will be nice if we can import *.svg files
into
OpenJUMP.
Cheers

As a geologist too, I agry with Ravi.
1) regarding Ravi's fist point, I have some
geological
font sets which I made and used in other software
(Arcview and FGIS). I can give to the JUMP
comunity if
require (fonts could be tranfered to verticles
symbols)
2) Ravi's point 2 is quite difficult, I image.
Arcview has a sort of "rotation" according to an
attribute value. Forestry Gis (FGIS) required a
long,
boring, script configuration. Nevertheless a "rotate symbol according to" is
probabily what geologist users basically expect
from a
GIS editor since we work with many point datas.
If there are other geologists on this discussion
list
it would be interesting to know their opinion.

Giuseppe
