Hi Larry,

The only reason I'm resistant is that when designing the UI we should reduce the different numbers of ways to do things for the same function. Having a menu item, toolbar icon and category context menu item for the same function is OK. Having two icons in the toolbar (+ and folder) for the Open... wizard would be too much overlap. And by using consistent icons the user can recognise the function where ever they are.

Let's see what others think about the slight change in the icons.

Hi Paul,

I think the menu icons are fine and great for new users.  The + icon on the toolbor is for ESRI users like the reviewer and long-time JUMP users.  It is more important to please both users than following an kind of design aesthetic.

Larry,

I think we should have our own GUI/Icon style rather than just following
the design of ESRI tools, Now when coming up with that style we can take
into account design elements such as what is used in general software
and also GIS software so that any computer user would be able to work
out the function of the icon.

As a compramise, let's have the following icons for the open menu items
and toolbar (slightly different from now)

Open... The folder with the +
Open File... The folder with a page
Open Project.. The folder with the project you created.

Uwe,

I'm not sure why you think the new Open Wizard is a hard way to load
PostGIS tables, in the old method you selected a drop down then entered
the parameters. With the new one you double click an icon and then enter
the parameters. And if someone wants to they can create a new panel for
the parameters to include validation of those parameters,

Paul
