Quoting Bryan Maynard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

Yesterday I was creating a new theme and selected the "monochrome" iconset. When I clicked "Apply" the progress meter went from 0% to 100% - then 0% to 100%, and
kept cycling until I pressed "Cancel".

When I pressed cancel all hell broke loose. My system became almost totally
unresponsive. All I was able to do was switch to a terminal and "shutdown -r
now". Looking back, I probably should have kill-TERMed each app individually, but I didn't :-( . From the .core files that showed up, it looks like kdeinit,
kdesktop, kopete, kicker, kioexec, kmail, and kwalletmanager all crashed.

Now when I log into KDE it looks like all I have is a basic X-Windows session
(no window title bars or borders), kicker does not come up, and I cannot get a
run command dialog up.

I've done some experimenting by logging in as root and trying to run kcontrol
under user "Bryan". When run in a terminal I get the following error:
Seesion management error: Could not open network socket
ERROR: Communication problem with kcontrol, it probably crashed

When I do the same thing for kmail I get this:
Session management error: Could not open network socket

I've attached my .xsession-errors if that helps.

Something else to add: kwin crashes now too. I've included my most recent
.xsession-errors inline thi time:

Need to see the calendar for this month? Simply type "cal". To see the
whole year, type "cal -y".

I don't know what most of this means except that it's bad. . .

Thanks again,
