Put WITH_OPENSSL_STABLE= YES into /etc/make.conf and try portupgrade -rf openssl again. And seriously consider upgrading your system to FreeBSD 5 or FreeBSD 6. In FreeBSD 4, we seem to have now reached a state where the openssl version included with the base system is too old and the latest version from ports is too new. There is, for the moment, the new security/openssl-stable port (setting the make variable above should trigger it to be used - make sure you're getting an openssl-0.9.7something when you start the portupgrade), I am hoping that will make things work - if so, I will change the dependency in kdepim to openssl-stable. However, this is yet another little push towards the edge of us dropping FreeBSD 4 support for good. I really urge everybody on this list to move up to FreeBSD 5 or FreeBSD 6 now and spread the word to everybody who does not read this list as well: FreeBSD 4 support is definitely on the way out.
