Read the FreeBSD handbook on starting KDE. From your vague description, 
it sounds like you're running another Window manager, and then trying 
to start KDE within in.

Again, please see the FreeBSD handbook. It has a whole bunch of nice 
information in it regarding X.org and KDE. A recent email to the list 
included a link to the appropriate section, so I won't repeat it again.
