Just wondering how many people here use raid on their home desktop machines.
I use mirroring. I have stuff on my home machine that I wouldn't want to lose. Even just the basic OS install would be a real pain to lose because it would probably happen at a time when I really need my machine.
Then, for those who do (or know how they would-do), what partitioning do you use -- a bunch (giving several mds), or one/few (possibly using lvm on top)?
I make a /boot device which is usually md0 to avoid complications with grub and then I make an md1 device which I make an LVM volume group and create logical volumes for my various filesystems in that.
