Well, I think it's more complicated than that. Content-type: multipart/mixed goes through all the time (with pgp sigs, etc) as well as text attachments such as LB included with his problem -- see http://www.kernel-panic.org/pipermail/kplug-list/2007-November/096392.html Now, I thought there was a thunderbird option, something like "embed text attachments in message" (I thought that might have meant "rather than encode them in base64", but I'm just handwaving, again) -- but I can't seem to locate that option just now (haven't looked very hard, though.
