Mark,
Did you start with Smooth Prime and then use the Ultimate 2K?

The primer I'm using on my plane is two part epoxy stuff called Ultimate 2K,
by Mar-Hyde. Everybody I've talked to, from the folks at the paint shop to
the instructor at the tech school say that you can pour oil and water all
over this stuff, and when it comes time to paint it a year later all you
need to do is a thorough degreasing, lightly sand with 600, and shoot a coat
of paint on it. That's what I plan to do, which is why mine is going to fly
in primer. This allows me to make changes, or even knock down some runway
lights, and not have to cry over my $3000 paint job. Besides that, I'm
going to do a little remodeling at my house, and one thing that will fall
out of it is a paint booth, so waiting a year has its advantages.

Older primers were indeed worthless for any amount of time, but the new
urethanes are far superior.
