Welcome Noel, A KR2 is a great choice.
With reference to your question: >> Q2. If I epoxy 2 pieces of equal-length 4130 strips one exactly on top of the other, is the strength doubled or bettered? eg. 2 pieces of 0.125 in x 1.5 in x 7.5 in of 4130 >>strips = 1 piece of 0.25 in x 1.5 in x 7.5 in of 4130 strips? Joining 2 pieces will never be as strong as no matter how you do it (glue, weld, fuse). They must be joined at the molecular level, be one piece. (Bold statement, I can hear the responses now). If you epoxied them together there would always be the risk of delamination, not mention what the smallest drop of moisture would do then. You must ask yourself why even try. 4130 is used for it's strength and is normanlly only used where structural strength is required. Why risk compromising structural integrity when the right job can be done. How much is your life worth?
