ok... assuming everything was good before JUST the tach install - and NOTHING 
other than the tach was installed (please let us know if anything else was  
done) - I am guessing electrical, where the coil is getting bad signal now.

Take the tach off and see if there is a change.

While we are all "just guessing",  lets start a lottery.  I'm guessing it's 
something in the valve train, other than a single valve spring.  Why would 
anything on a single cylinder make a 6 cylinder engine run that bad.  Also, 
"WAM, BAM" sounds like something metallic under considerable stress to me, not 
an intake leak.  Intake leaks don't usually happen instantaneously with a loud 
noise.  I'm guessing you have something bad broke.
